This show is dedicated to encouraging you to step outside of your comfort zone and IN to your travel business - I'll show you how I did it and how you can too. Hit subscribe now and let's get into it.
In under 4 years, I went from being a home-based travel agent with zero clue how to make it work in the online world, to winning Mentor of the Year for Women In Travel helping our industry to build their digital influence.
In episode 28, your host Stephanie Myers chats about how sometimes the desire to travel can become oh so overwhelming. And sometimes you feel like you’re sliding into that everyday slum of the ‘work – work’ and no play thing. You’ve been bitten my that cute little travel bug and nothing seems to satisfy your happiness and it’s constantly killing your buzz.
Now if you’re a daydreamer just like me, than you will totally vibe with today’s episode where we’ll be chatting all about how you can maximise your travel mindset. What you need to do and how you can create that shift to make it apart of your life, every single day.
Now – I bet you’re asking yourself alllll the questions.
How can I increase my travel mindset, and why is it so damn important if I’m looking to make travel a big part of my goals for the next few years?!
This is where we break it down into bite-sized pieces.
But before I dive in, I want to offer a disclaimer: this episode is designed for the passionate super travellers, whether you’re experienced and have travelled extensively OR you’ve done all the research, been planning your ultimate escape for years but there is still so much to add to your wanderlist. – if either of these sounds like you, then you’re in the right place.
The Number 1 thing I want to concentrate on in today’s episode is the topic of mindset.
And we all know how powerful mindset is right? there are plenty of catch phrases around it if you want to achieve the best of what you want in life, for example, one thing my dad always told me growing up was “if you put your mind to it, you can do anything” or the variation of that and one that seems to be my dad’s all time favourite is “you can convince yourself of anything.. mate”
Which is WHY I’ve created the Mindful Mud Map – a 3 step tool guide to unleashing your true travel personality – and the #1 method I use to start building the foundation with my clients and formulating that killer mindset to enhance your travel vision.
Because what we really want is to just strip everything back – YES??
SO – what’s the usual first thing we do when we’re planning out a trip? We’re setting up our goals, we’re doing all the things that we feel at the time is the right thing to do. But all we’re doing is “setting and forgetting” am I right? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this over the years – people with really good intentions to create insanely new experiences for themselves but then totally flake.
Here’s a classic example:- Your friends have invited you on a girls only weekender trip and you’re keen to go too, who doesn’t want to hang out with all your fav people for the entire weekend right?
But then your cousin talks you into a matching tattoo, a night out on the town and the chance to eat all the foods and drink as many cocktails as you want.
You end up spending all your money on impulse rather than saving for an incredible holiday and the chance to closely connect with your closest friends.
I know this may seem a little elaborate but the purpose of this is to demonstrate how impulsive humans can be when we’re not 100% passionate on something that is meant for us and can be easily distracted my that YOLO status of the here and now.
Goals are great but they aren’t going to create themselves so it’s super important to dig a little deeper and really double down on creating a plan that is not only actionable but simple enough to follow through.
Keeping in mind that sometimes our goals can be scary and overwhelming, and of course they are, they should be.. most of my goals when it comes to travel have always made me feel either really frustrated or really overwhelmed and I totally get that it can be extremely hard at times when you don’t have the slightest clue on knowing where to start.
That’s where having a strategic process in place to help make those hard decisions, somewhat easier.
But first of, we’re going to get messy before – we get clear.
YEP! We’re going to do a brain-dump! It’s about getting all your thoughts, dreams, desires and visuals for your trip – out on paper – keep in mind that this will ultimately look different from each holiday to the next as of course, each holiday will have it’s own goals and lists to tick off.
If you journal in the morning, it’s a really good time to scribble down a few ideas of what travel experiences you want and once you’ve done that – you can start working on your Mindful Mud Map.
Which consists of 3 steps: –
By putting these 3 simple steps in place, soon enough – you’ll be looking at the world of travel a little differently.
So – here’s a challenge – we’ll start this on a smaller scale – I want you to look at where you live on Google Maps and the next day you have free whether it’s midweek or on the weekend – I want you to plan a daytrip, for however long you want – but it’s important you visit a place you’ve never been too before that’s within a close proximity to home and isn’t more than say a ½ hr drive.
Here is the link to Google Maps to get you started.
I want you to follow the steps in the Mindful Mud Map which you can download here (scroll down) and practice working through what you want out of your day.
I’d love to see where you go, what you do and what your #1 key takeaway was from your big day out. Whether it’s something you learned, something you felt or somewhere you found.
