In under 4 years, I went from being a home-based travel agent with zero clue how to make it work in the online world, to winning Mentor of the Year for Women In Travel helping our industry to build their digital influence.
I posted a question box to my Instagram stories earlier on in the week, asking our travel agent pals what their biggest struggles are when it comes to digital marketing inside of their travel businesses.
And you know what I quickly learnt?
That it really doesn’t matter which travel agency you franchise under, or what colour team you bat for.
Each person who dropped in to offer their own individual perspective (shout out to you if you contributed!), took 30 seconds out of their day to focus on what’s lacking in their digital marketing AND they were all surprisingly very comparable.
Which tells me that there is a much BIGGER problem at play here.
It goes way beyond what agents perceive as the root cause of their struggle is eg. time, motivation, fear, lack of interest.
BUT – there seems to be a very common misconception that us travel agents need to have a special set of skills to be able to have a digital online presence.
That if you’re not ‘tech savvy’ or ‘good’ with social media, you can’t have it all.
So I’m here to bust this wide open for you – because there has never been a better time in the history of the world to take advantage of our current digital era AND make it work for us.
I get it – you care about the success of your business, so you keep doing what you’ve always done in the past because it is what has worked for you.
But what if you could be known for your passion, your skillset and your industry know-how, on a wider scale? Be the true authority in our industry?
This is what having a digital marketing strategy can give you.
It won’t happen overnight.
But I promise, the thing that you are struggling with the most in your business right now, is likely the very thing that will set you apart and change the way you do business forever.
