Unplug In Paradise
In under 4 years, I went from being a home-based travel agent with zero clue how to make it work in the online world, to winning Mentor of the Year for Women In Travel helping our industry to build their digital influence.
IN THIS PODCAST EPISODE, I CHAT WITH SUE BARTON, OUR INDUSTRY’S VERY OWN TRAVEL AGENTS MINDSET COACH ABOUT THE NEED TO FORM A SOLID RESPONSE TEAM TO ASSIST OUR TRAVEL AGENT COLLEAGUES AND OPEN A SPACE TO CHAT THROUGH THE CURRENT ISSUES THAT ARE RIFE IN OUR INDUSTRY.
Sue joins us back on the show to delve into the 4 Scarcity Mindset Sins that us small business owners commit on the daily and how to reframe them in a way that serves you in business and in life.
Not only is Sue a travel agent veteran herself, she’s also a professionally trained NLP Practitioner and Personal Development Coach who has blended her passions of TRAVEL and MINDSET together to help travel agents shift forward with new thinking tools and skills to re-emerge their businesses with renewed passion.
Key takeaways
A breakdown of the 4 Scarcity Mindset Sins we commit on the daily in our industry:
The threat of potential loss – Why are we so upset when a client, family or friend does not book with us? That sick feeling in our stomach starts up and we feel hurt, betrayed, or angry. Because we perceive we have lost something! We are more motivated by the thought of losing something than gaining something. We have a fear of missing out (FOMO!) When this happens the mental trigger of scarcity comes into play. You’ll do anything to get the sale! Scarcity shoves us into action making us act quickly out of the fear of missing out on an opportunity and it drives us crazy.
The Broke mentality – This mentality limits us in life. The belief that we are poor or broke colours everything. That you were somehow born that way and only smart, rich, beautiful people have the luck. This is a limiting belief that holds us back. And often we do it for comfort of not having to step it up – fear of been seen, fear of failure comes into play. So, we sabotage ourselves…by not trying something different so that we don’t feel that dreaded perceived pain of loss or failure.
Dreams are expensive Mentality – This scarcity mindset keeps you from chasing your dreams. You are constantly living in survival mode, not thrive mode. You hold yourself back unconsciously because deep down you don’t believe you can achieve greatness! Instead, you work hard, so, you put off time for yourself, don’t spend money on your business in fear of disappointment of failure. You may be trying to be ‘seen’ as perfect or think you can do everything (You often feel burned out because you are not living out your passions and hobbies… its all work!!!)
When it is rare it is more valuable mentality – We like things more if we perceive them to be scarce. Like diamonds (a girl must have them). The problem with this mentality in the extreme can lead towards consumerism, shopping, I must have the best clothes, house, adventure, gambling. Notice those restaurants that have a line of people waiting outside. Or a busy shop, we all start to get attracted to the shop when we walk by. They must have something extraordinary or rare and then the mindset of scarcity hits us, we don’t want to miss out! This rule works well in business.
And so much more!
